Mitchell Martinez is a New York-based figurative artist
Born and raised in Southern California, Mitchell began his career as a scenic artist and prop maker for Hollywood movie studios before becoming a prototype toy sculptor, creating original maquettes of widely distributed action figures and collectible figurines. He has worked as a studio artist for many of the largest names in the arts and entertainment industries. His paintings, sculptures and toys are part of private and public collections across America, including the MoMA and The Museum of Sex.
Mitchell explores narrative themes drawn from dreams and memory in the figurative and surrealist tradition. His upcoming body of work will focus on his life narrative, while retaining some of the surrealist aspects of his earlier work.
He lives in Nyack, New York with his wife and daughter.
